There are three ways to get a cab at Tullamarine, and they suit different situations. Joining the rank needs no booking at all and works well for daytime domestic arrivals when the queue is short. Every terminal at Melbourne Airport has a ground-level taxi rank signposted from inside the arrivals hall. What the fare estimate includes
Airport trips carry two costs that a normal suburban trip does not: the airport access fee charged on departures from the terminal ranks, and the CityLink toll if your route uses the Tullamarine Freeway. Both are already built into the fixed price you are quoted. On a metered trip they show as separate line items on the receipt, which is what most people are looking at when they think the meter has misread.
The tariff itself depends on when you travel, not where you are going. A 6am arrival is charged on the overnight rate; the same trip at 11am is on the day rate. Because most airport runs are early or late, this is worth checking before you assume a figure you saw quoted somewhere else applies to your flight. Luggage: what fits
A standard sedan comfortably takes four passengers with one checked bag and one carry-on each.
