Tarneit is one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the country and much of it is new estate streets that mapping apps still get wrong. A house number and the estate name gets the driver to the right kerb first time โ Riverdale, Davis Creek, Wattle Park and the streets off Sayers Road all look alike at 4am.

Tarneit to Melbourne Airport: what to know
This route uses Leakes Road and the Western Ring Road rather than the West Gate Bridge, which is why it holds its time better than a Tarneit-to-city trip in the morning peak. The slow section is usually the first few kilometres inside the estates rather than the freeway.
By public transport it is a Tarneit line train into the city and then SkyBus back out โ commonly 90 minutes or more, and awkward with checked bags or children. A booked cab is door to terminal with no changes.
Book the night before for anything leaving before 6am. Tarneit is at the outer edge of the metropolitan dispatch area, so a car has to be positioned in the corridor rather than found in the next street.
Fares follow the Victorian time-and-distance tariff, which differs between the day, overnight and peak periods, so a pre-dawn run is not priced the same as a midday one. Check the calculator with your real pickup time or ask for a fixed price when you book โ that total is agreed up front and does not move if your flight lands late.
Planning any Melbourne Airport trip?
Tarneit sits at the western edge of the metropolitan dispatch area, so airport trips here are always pre-booked. Terminal pickup points, booking steps and fare details are the same across all our airport work.
Our Melbourne Airport taxi guide covers all of it in one place โ how to book, where to meet your driver at each terminal, what the fare estimate includes, luggage limits and the questions passengers ask most.
