Footscray to Melbourne Airport: what to know
Because the trip is short, timing matters more than distance. Off-peak it can be under 25 minutes, but between 7am and 9am Dynon Road, Footscray Road and the Western Ring Road approaches slow considerably — add 15 to 20 minutes for a weekday morning flight.
The usual route via the Western Ring Road is toll-free. If traffic pushes the driver onto CityLink, any toll is added to the metered fare and itemised on your receipt — tell the driver at pickup if you would rather stay off the tollway.
Public transport from Footscray means a train into the city and then SkyBus back out past your own suburb, which is why so many locals book a cab instead. Door to terminal is typically less than half the time.
