How to book an accessible vehicle
WAV vehicles are allocated on request rather than dispatched automatically, so book ahead where you can. Call 0421 807 027 and say you need a wheelchair accessible vehicle, or add it to the notes when booking online along with the chair type and whether the passenger transfers to a seat.
For appointments, book the return leg at the same time. A pre-booked return means the car is waiting rather than being found after you are already outside.
MPTP — the Multi Purpose Taxi Program
Victoria's Multi Purpose Taxi Program subsidises taxi travel for eligible members with a permanent and severe disability. Present your MPTP card at the start of the trip and the subsidy is applied to the fare, up to the program's per-trip limit set by Safe Transport Victoria.
Members are responsible for the remaining portion of the fare, payable by card, EFTPOS or cash. Ask for a receipt if you need to claim or record the trip.
Medical appointments and hospital travel
Accessible bookings are common for dialysis, oncology, rehabilitation and specialist appointments. Wait-and-return is available for short appointments so the same driver takes you home.
Drivers can assist to the door of the clinic or ward entrance where required. If a carer or support worker is travelling with the passenger, note that at booking so the right vehicle is sent.
What to tell dispatch
The pickup and destination address, the appointment time, the type of wheelchair or mobility aid, whether the passenger stays in the chair, and whether a carer, guide dog or oxygen equipment is travelling.
Assistance animals travel free and are always welcome. If a step-free pickup point exists at your building, mention it so the driver goes to the right entrance.
