MCG drop-off and pickup
For the MCG, Brunton Avenue and Jolimont are the standard access points, with Wellington Parade and Punt Road used when match-day closures apply. Gates 1 through 7 run around the ground, so tell your driver your gate number rather than just 'the MCG'.
After the siren, the forecourt is the slowest place in Melbourne. Walk five minutes to Wellington Parade, East Melbourne, or the Richmond side of Punt Road and your pre-booked car will reach you far quicker than it can reach the ground itself.
Marvel Stadium drop-off and pickup
Marvel Stadium sits in Docklands with drop-offs on La Trobe Street, Harbour Esplanade and the Bourke Street pedestrian end. It is a short run from anywhere in the CBD — often under 10 minutes outside match traffic.
For pickups, Docklands Drive, NewQuay and the Southern Cross Station end of Collins Street clear well before the stadium precinct does. Roof-closed games in winter mean everyone leaves at once, so pre-booking matters more than at an open-air ground.
Timing your arrival
Aim to be dropped off 45 minutes before the first bounce for a standard round, and an hour for a final or a blockbuster. Traffic on Punt Road, Batman Avenue and Flinders Street builds sharply in the last half hour before the bounce.
Night games finishing around 10.30pm fall into the night tariff band. That band is a published fixed rate, so a Friday night blockbuster is priced the same way as a quiet Tuesday.
What a match-day trip costs
A fixed price agreed before you travel does not move if match traffic adds twenty minutes. A metered fare will. For match days, most people take the fixed price both ways.
