Where the taxi ranks are
The main rank is on Spencer Street outside the Collins Street end of the station, with a second rank on the Bourke Street pedestrian bridge side. Both get long queues when a regional train unloads or when a big event finishes at Marvel Stadium next door.
Pre-booked pickups usually work better on the Little Collins Street or Bourke Street side, away from the SkyBus bays where traffic backs up. Tell us which platform or entrance you are coming out of and the driver will meet you there.
Southern Cross to Melbourne Airport
The station to Tullamarine is roughly 20–25 minutes off-peak via CityLink, or 30–40 in morning peak. This is one of the most common taxi trips in the city and one where a fixed price is worth taking — a late train plus a slow Tullamarine Freeway is a bad combination on a metered fare.

Connecting from regional Victoria
V/Line services from Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Traralgon and Warrnambool all terminate here. If your final destination is a suburb rather than the CBD, a cab from Southern Cross is usually quicker than transferring to a metro train, particularly outside peak frequency.
For the reverse trip, we also run direct road transfers to and from regional Victoria if you would rather skip the train entirely.
Around the precinct
Docklands, Marvel Stadium, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Crown, Southbank and the western end of Collins Street are all short runs from the station. Events at Marvel Stadium make Spencer Street congested for about an hour after the final siren.
