The airport advantage
Essendon, Pascoe Vale, Glenroy and Broadmeadows are 10–20 minutes from Melbourne Airport off-peak, and Craigieburn and Coburg are not far behind. For most northern suburbs the airport is closer than the CBD.
That keeps airport fares from the north among the lowest in metro Melbourne. Pre-book with your flight number and the pickup is tracked against the actual landing time.
Into the CBD
Sydney Road, Bell Street and the Hume Highway all clog between 7.30am and 9am. A trip from Preston or Coburg that runs 20 minutes at midday can stretch past 40 in peak.
Book ahead and take the fixed price for anything with a fixed start time. Off-peak the meter usually comes out lower.
Local destinations in the north
Northland Shopping Centre, Broadmeadows Central, Pacific Epping, the Northern Hospital, Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, La Trobe University at Bundoora and Melbourne Airport are the regular runs.
Weekend nights along Sydney Road and Lygon Street are busy for pickups. The night tariff is a published rate, so late trips home are priced predictably rather than multiplied by demand.
